Did you hear about the Oxfam report that was released on Tuesday 19th January 2016 which has been creating some buzz within the economic and human rights circles? Well, for those that didn’t, the report states that research has shown that the richest 1% in the world will own more wealth than the remaining 99% by 2016. Just so that you can get a clearer picture of what they mean, according to this report, current statistics shows that the richest 62 people have more wealth than the bottom 3.5billion people.
Can I just ask you this, and I would want you to answer as honestly as possible, on which side of this data do you think God destined you to be, the top 62 or the 3.5billion? This is the kind of question nobody can answer for you, each man has to answer for himself. For me, I am convinced God’s plan for me is in that 62 region, and for those who also believe that is where they belong, that question we should be asking ourselves is, why are we not there yet and what do we need to do to get there?
While most analyst have been calling for policies that ensure equality in wealth distribution, which is a good thing, I don’t think that can move anyone into that upper 62, at best, maybe that would only reduce that number of people in the 3.5billion. However, there was something Jesus said to his disciples when He taught them about the parable of the talents, He said in Matthew 25:29 - For the man who uses well what he is given shall be given more, and he shall have abundance. But from the man who is unfaithful, even what little responsibility he has shall be taken from him[TLB]. This verse suggests that abundance comes by first putting what you have at hand to good use, then it will multiply. Hence, if you are one of those with eyes on that club 62, then look around you, find the value in what you already have and get to work. God Bless You!
