JIB CRAFTS: INSPIRING STORY OF THE LAW STUDENT WHO IS ALSO A SALES REP!
05:01
Hello beautiful people!!!!
Hope you all had great holidays, especially for those who live in Nigeria? I spent the most part of my
holidays working while the remaining teeny weeny part was spent sleeping and been to church.
Yeeup! Got in the much needed rest because I did have work to do.
Talking about work, I remember a conversation I had with my friend who is a blogger at Adlive Life Blog where we wondered aloud what we were doing while our younger brothers were hustling and trying to build a life for thermselves. Here is a story of another amazon, Dami, who is steadily building a successful business while studying to get a degree in LAW
Awesome, right?!
First of all, INTRODUCTION?!
I am mostly called Dami. I am a proud Nigerian but I am currently in the United Kingdom. I am studying law and at the same time, I am an independent sales representative for a company called Avon. This basically means that I own my business and I have point of contact with customers by providing them with products they purchase. We have a range of products - make-up, skincare, fragrance, jewelry, men's store, fashion, home, fitness, hair salon and bath & body. Brochures are given to customers to browse through and there is also my on-line store for perusal.
How it all started?
I started by signing up with the company- Avon. There was a small start up fee after I placed my first order. I started because I wanted to earn an upkeep. After applying for several jobs and it coming to naught, I prayed for God to help me and Avon dropped into my lap. It almost flew past me until I recognize that God indeed answered my prayer. I almost flew past me because I wanted like an admin job not sales. I started late 2014 but it wasn't until last year 2015 that I fully accepted that what I signed up to do and realized that I actually like the one-on-one contact I had with customers, and also letting them know what products I liked. The struggle was building a customer base because you had to know people before you could get them to buy from you. Whilst some were reluctant about using products that they haven't used before. But for God's favour and favour with man and for patience, I would have given up.
How have you been able to strike a balance?
Well, balancing work with my personal life is quite easy, if I may say so. Due to the fact that, I work the hours I want to work but when it comes to the delivery that is when things can be a little tricky. With my business there is a direct delivery to your home and there is a representative delivery which is me delivering their products to them. Most people use the representative delivery as that is free, in comparison to the direct delivery which has a charge. The fact that I delivery means that it can clash with my personal life, so I do is work out when the best time to make a delivery and do the delivery all on the same day if possible.
Motivation?
God has been my only and biggest motivator. He is what I want Him to be and He is always there, His word is always there. He already promised that He will bless the work of my hands and He is not a man that He should lie or the son of man that He should repent. When I start complaining about what I want or what I am expecting, I am reminded of His word and I put the pressure on Him as it is written "cast your burdens and cares unto Him". For He said I am blessed, I keep on pushing.
Trainees? Apprentices?
I don't take trainees or apprentices but I can recommend a friend and help and advice with how things work. Also, I can become a Sales Leader and take on people who want to become an Independent Sales Rep but that means more work with constantly building up a team of people.
Advice to fresh entrepreneurs?
My two cents will be always look up to the Creator of the Universe, the one who created us in His likeness. Without Him we are nothing but with Him we are everything. Also, don't give up when people turn you down or turn their noses up at you. Keep persevering and keep the love for what you are doing burning. It is very important, you love what you do!
WOWSER!!!!!
It's really an amazing story of strength and courage because I know it's difficult enough being just a student, talk more of also venturing into business. But Dami here is doing it, so what's your excuse?
I hope you noticed that she is open to help too and very open for more business, so you may reach her via:
