Honestly, I sometimes wish the part of growing up that has to do with "paying bills" can be omitted from my own syllabus. See, I like the part where I work and make money, and I like to decide what I want to spend the money on, but I hate the bills part.
When you drive your parent's car, you enjoy the benefits of having a car, but as soon as it develops a fault, you remind your parents their car has a fault and they need to fix it. When you live with your parents, all you do is tell them when there's a fault to be fix in the house. However, it gets to a point where you need to move out, but does it seem right for you to move out and still run back to your parents every time a bill needs to be paid?
This is exactly what many of us want as Christians, we want to own "our lives" and make choices that we like, but expect to accept and fund whatever choice we make. When you said you gave your life to Christ, did you really give your life? Or your held on to "your life" but gave the responsibility to Jesus?
Romans 6:16 says - Since we’re free in the freedom of God, can we do anything that comes to mind? Hardly. You know well enough from your own experience that there are some acts of so-called freedom that destroy freedom. Offer yourselves to sin, for instance, and it’s your last free act. But offer yourselves to the ways of God and the freedom never quits[MSG].
It is said that "He who pays the piper, calls the tune", but we want God to pay the piper while we call the tune. If Jesus is indeed Lord of your life, does He call the tune in your finance, love life, social life, and every other area of your life? Think about it, and make adjustments where necessary. God Bless You!
