D'Food Marshal...for the love of food
07:56
Hey fam!!!
Today is the day for all ye foodies, because our featured entrepreneur is a caterer who lives in a kitchen and loves all thing culinary. Her text has been left conversational, like she sent it in, because
we'd love you to enjoy the personality behind D'Food Marshal Catering Services.
Be inspired!
My name is Jennifer Seiyefah Yinkore and I'm a graduate of University of Lagos, I studied Creative Arts. Currently, I'm a caterer and budding chef, the CEO D'Food Marshal Catering Services (Office and home delivery, events, catering, business dinners) which basically is targeted at catering to the 'tummy desires' of people on a budget because I believe everyone can afford a quality, healthy, home cooked meal without having to spend an arm and a leg....
I started my business first based on passion, for as long as I can remember food has always been a part of me either the 'junk food' varieties or the actual food varieties; I have just always been and still am in love with FOOD!!!! (Don't let my statue fool you o, food is a way of life for me).
I started from my father's kitchen with my Dad and friends been my willing 'lab rats' (they still are by the way). I also started it because I believe through food, I can make a major impact in my society, I can touch and bless lives all over and also empower people through what I do....
'Ómò! To be honest the hustle, no be beans rara'! It's one thing to have a passion and it's a different ball game knowing how to make that passion you have, pay those bills especially when you have to be at the top of your game. But with enough tenacity, determination and grace, the sky my friends is just the tip of the iceberg; so each day I just keep pushing myself and look for ways to get better because I believe in what I do and what I have to offer to people....
Well! In the aspect of finding a balance between work and my personal life, I don't have much issues there; everyone who knows me and knows what I do, know what I'm all about (Great Food!!!) and because they (family and friends) know how much it means to me, we all have come to an understanding. The understanding been when I have to work, I have to work BUT at the end of the day, they still make my list of top priorities because they are one of driving forces (after God) keeping me going daily....
One of the major challenges I would say I face is getting or sourcing for adequate resources in terms of finances, good kitchen wares and networking. It's a well known fact that business don't fold up due to lack of ideas, instead folds up due to lack of adequate funds. As a newbie in the business, I have to start from scratch to build my clientele and brand to the level that people can not just see and relate to, but also be able to relate to it just from 'word of mouth'; therefore breaking into the market is a slow but sure process which I face daily but I'm grateful for.
My family (both blood and 'unblood') motivate me daily! At times when I'm so down and I'm feeling like the whole hassle isn't worth it, after all they just seem to know the right words to say to get me going again and their believe in my works....*sighs*... just can't be described (it's like kilode!) I can say without uncertainty that if God hadn't put them in my life, D'FoodMarshal Catering Services won't have been thought of or even born at all!
Also people like @dooney'skitchen, @1qfoodplatter, @Chefdudu, @reddishchronciles push me, I see what they are doing with food (both local ànd international); and I'm like if they can do it, why can't I biko? (Them no get two heads now). But above all, food in all its forms motivates me; the mere thought of what can be created out of 'just food' is awesome!
Right now, I'm not training anyone but it's something I plan to do in the nearest future. (By the time I stand gidigba for ground). I plan to offer certified courses which would be recognised all over (Watch out!)

My advice to upcoming or aspiring entrepreneurs is to just get out of that comfort zone and start something, anything no matter how little they think it is. They should start it and as long as they stay honest and true to their trade, the world would eventually come seeking them out ('Rome wasn't built in a day')
BUT they should also seek out competent mentors, who can help them avoid major pit holes. And yea, you would run out of money every now and then; but one sure fact is you would definitely most assuredly get it back as long as it's wisely spent and invested.. So learn to save, invest, plan and implement....

I hope I have been able to inspire anyone out there who's still harbouring that teeny-weeny bit of the fear of failure.... GET UP!!!! Nothing in life is certain especially when it's not given a try and even if you do fail, learn from your mistakes and go about it differently....
