“I prayed for 20yrs but received no answer until I prayed with my legs” – Fredrick Douglas. I stumbled on this quote when one of my favorite rappers “KB”, posted it on Facebook, and the post didn’t just catch my attention, it caught me. I believe that the reason why many people still go around with bags loaded with unanswered prayers is simply because they haven’t realised that effective prayer would require the use of their legs. I hope there is no Nicodemus reading that quote in it’s literal sense, even even if there is, let me quickly tell a few things about the man before I explain further.
Fredrick Douglas was one of the leading figures in the fight against slavery in America, a writer and very good orator. I read that he speaks so well that it was hard for many of the slave masters to believe such wisdom was coming out of the mouth of a former slave, and from this kind of quote we have here, I believe we can conclude he was a man that knew God.
James 2:20 says - You fool! Do you have to be shown that faith which does nothing is useless?[God’s Word] and if I may just add, that prayer that doesn’t inspire action is either wrong or incomplete. Dear Nicodemus, Mr Douglas wasn’t referring to some kind of leg movement while you pray, he was talking about what you do after you have prayed. Just think about all the times Moses, or any one of the fathers of faith prayed, God told them to do something. Some of us have gotten impressions on what to do after we prayed, but we ignored, waiting for God to do it Himself. Prayer is not always about God moving, it is mostly about God showing you what to do, to get what He has provided. It’s time to start praying with your legs. God Bless You!
