Hi darl! Briefly introduce yourself, please?
I’m Vivian Ukwadinamor, a Graduate of Energy and Petroleum from Novena University, Delta State. I own Vianelli Designs and Craft Shop. Vianelli Designs is a Nigerian fashion label that specializes
in manufacturing clutch purses, bags of all kinds, slippers, sandals, shoes, accessories, etc, for men and women.
I started Vianelli Designs & Craft Shop in 2012 during my NYSC program in Ogbomosho, Oyo State. I started with making twine bags, twine purses and twine footwears for women only, which I learnt in the three weeks NYSC camp at Iseyin, Oyo State. After my NYSC program, I went further in gaining more experience in making bags, purses, accessories and shoes with fabric. Now, I make bags and purses of different shapes and designs (men & women, boys and girls), shoes, sandals, slippers, bow ties, pocket squares, broach, rose, suspenders, belts, earrings, hair-piece, bangles, neck-piece, etc, using fabric and leather.
Great designs but why this craft?
I got interested in this art because of my love for bags and shoes. Though it’s not been easy, because when I first started, I had little or no cash to get the materials needed, but because I was determined to see Vianelli Designs come to reality, to see people carry my bags, use my foot-wears and accessories, I didn’t give up. I would use any money I get to buy the materials needed at that time and make the item I want. Since then till date, it’s been God all the way. Whenever I see my friends, family and customers use my designs, I’m always happy, and this makes me want to do more.
Challenges?
I’d say one major challenge I have is getting people to know about my products and getting them to accept them. Some people feel my products won’t last because they are locally made. I still remember a palm-slippers I made for a guy that he used for 2½ years without giving any shoe-maker to repair. He wore the slippers under the rain and in the Sun until he got tired, that is, to tell you how good my products are, even though they are locally made. So it’s really challenging for me to build that reputation to a level that people will trust and look forward to wherever they are.
Aspirations?
I dream to establish a big company with various departments where people can come to learn different designs on bags, purse and shoes with fabric and leather, and employ people I can work with to produce bags and shoes of good standard and quality.
Advice to aspiring entrepreneurs?
My advice to the aspiring entrepreneurs out there is have faith in yourself, believe in your dreams, don't give up and You'll surely get there.
