I used find this concept of the FRUIT of the Spirit confusing. I know there are 9 of them, but what I don't get is, are there 9 fruits or one fruit with 9 variations? Besides, how can one tree produce 9 different fruits, I've not seen that before o. These are the kind of questions that used to pop in mind, and I also wondered how long it would take before I can get all nine. However, God gave me a little example which helped me understand the concept better. 

I'm sure you are familiar with Carrots. You see, that carrot you are looking at contains at least 5 different vitamins and minerals. So with every crunchy bite, no matter how small, you get fractions of each of the vitamins and minerals it contains. Therefore, when Galatians 5:22-23 says - But the Spirit produces the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. There is no law that says these things are wrong[NCV], what this means is that the presence of the Spirit releases those 9 nutrients into your life. Now, just like it's not possible to eat carrots without getting those nutrients, and you can't even control which nutrient to take or discard while eating, likewise, you can't have the Spirit of God and not have those nutrients in your life. So take a good look at all the 9 fruit of the Spirit, you have all of them right now as long as you have the Spirit of God. It doesn't matter if it doesn't feel like you have it. Those ones that seem absent in you, just keep reminding yourself that God gave them to you when He gave you the Holy Spirit and watch as it begins to grow within you. God Bless You!
