If keeping fit or growing muscles is simply done by going to the gym, do you think I'd grow any muscle if I start going to the gym everyday for the next one year without lifting any of the weights in the gym? Likewise, going to church every Sunday is good, but if you don't apply what you hear, how then does it show forth in your life?
Going to the gym to stare at all the work out equipments does not give physical fitness, neither will wearing appropriate workout kits only to go and gist with people at the gym burn any weight or adds muscles. It is what you do with those equipments that counts. In the same way, you can come to church and just stare at those who share wonderful testimonies or the pastor, then have a good time gisting with your peeps afterwards, but if you don't engage the word you hear, how can Christ be formed in you?
You see, just like the focus of the exercise for a person trying to convert his/her pot belly to six pack abs is different from that of another person trying to grow more biceps and triceps, so also we all hear the same word but apply it differently. Every word you hear has something to say about the biggest challenge you are currently faced with, but you get that when you pay attention. Isaiah 45:19 says - I publicly proclaim bold promises; I do not whisper obscurities in some dark corner so that no one can know what I mean. And I didn’t tell Israel to ask me for what I didn’t plan to give! No, for I, Jehovah, speak only truth and righteousness[TLB].
See, God is serious about everything He says to you, but do you take everything you hear Him say seriously? God Bless You!
