Anchor Song: Give To The Lord

I heard two ladies talking about how difficult things have been and one said to the other, "things have not been easy, I gave my first fruit in January". The other lady said, "what is first fruit again? All these churches will just looking for ways to take people's money. Sometimes, I don't even tithe because the church appears to be richer than her members. So why should i give for others to enjoy while i suffer".
I'm not here to claim any moral high ground, so I won't be pointing accusing fingers, but that conversation between those ladies shows the mindset with which many of us give in our churches. Hence, the first thing I'd like to say is that any biblical principle you apply that seems to increase your burden must have been done in error. It is either the principle is wrong or your application of that principle is wrong.
Why do we give? While we have it at the back of our minds that when we give, God will cause an abundance to come back to us. Let's not forget that what we are giving also came from God. It is God that gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater. So every act of giving is first a show of appreciation for what God first gave, before it is an investment into the kingdom.
Who do we give to? It is very important to always remember that God is the one we are giving to, even though it is men that collect it. If you want to give, you have to give as unto God and take your eyes off what whoever does with it. Remember, one day each person will stand to give an account of their actions before God.
Finally, Apostle Paul said in 2 Corinthians 9:7 - Each of you should give as you have decided in your heart to give. You should not be sad when you give, and you should not give because you feel forced to give. God loves the person who gives happily[NCV]. The Living Bible[TLB] says "Cheerful givers are the ones God prizes".
Therefore, is it possible that many acts of giving seems to go unrewarded because the givers gave what they were not happy about? So, I'd advice that whenever you want to give, let it be what your heart can cheerfully release, it might not always be convenient, but your heart is satisfied. There is nothing wrong in giving what you have first, then ask God to provide what you don't have. After all, He gives seed to the sower... God Bless You!
