Peace Odili: FREELY GIVEN!!!
12:24
I had some free time on my hands at work and thought to scroll through Facebook. One thing led to another and I found myself on a friend's wall. As I scrolled through, a video caught my attention and I
clicked on it; It was a video shot and posted by Ock TV. and a lot of people would probably have seen this video while others might not. For those who have, this write-up will serve as a reminder and for those who haven't, let's take an imagery walk...
This video which had about four scenes, starred seven guys; two of the guys wore shirts bearing the Ock TV inscription while one of the guys wore a hoodie with the same TV inscription.
The first scene showed one of the guys with the TV inscription on his shirt begging a random guy eating pizza on the street for a slice but he got the response, "sorry man, it's not even enough for me to eat".
Scene two showed the hoodie guy beg a dreaded guy eating pizza for a slice too and he got the response "f**k off guy, f**k off" that he had to apologize for asking.
Scene three showed another t-shirt guy with the TV inscription beg for food and he got the 'sorry' response too.
The last scene showed the two guys with t-shirts on giving a pack of pizza to a beggar/ homeless guy by the roadside. The homeless guy thanked them and tore into the meal.
A few seconds passed, the guy with the hoodie came to sit by him (the homeless man) and asked him for a slice which he willingly gave a slice with smiles. The hoodie guy thanked him and bit into his share of pizza while he started a conversation with the homeless man about how life is hard and not easy et cetera et cetera.
After about three bites the hooded guy got up, thanked the homeless guy, brought out his wallet and gave the homeless guy some dollar notes. The homeless guy could not stop the tears from trickling down his face.
The lesson I took from this video is that you don't have to have the best of everything or a perfect life to be able to give and help another. Sometimes the benchmark for the giving test is, do you really need what you are giving? The beggar needed that food but shared still. He could have come up with the excuse that you should be giving me instead of asking me to share mine; but he did not let his condition change his heart.
Giving of what you mostly need could be difficult but that kind of sacrificial gift is what is really rewarding; take for example the man in the video who gave a slice of pizza and got some dollar notes in return. Bear in mind, that he genuinely did give the young man a share because he felt the guy needed a bit to eat; from his reaction to the gift of money, he didn't expect at all that giving a slice from his box of pizza could bring him some money.
The Bible is filled with examples of people who willing gave what was considered most precious to them; let's name a few:
- Abraham needed a son desperately, God gave him and asked for that same son, Abraham gave and he got the world.
- The widow of Zeraphat gave the food she needed the most to Prophet Elijah and got a hundred fold reward.
- The young lad have his lunch of five loaves and two fishes to Jesus and got twelve baskets in return.
- God have His only son and got the redemption of mankind in return.
The Bible says, "Freely have you received, Freely give" which means we have freely received the gift of love and life from Jesus, it should not be hard to freely love another human who needs your love.
1 Corinthians 4:7 also says: "For who made you superior to others? Didn't God give you everything you have? Well, then, how can you boast, as if what you have were not a gift?"
Since everything you have came from God, let others see God in and through you so endeavour to make a person smile today by giving. The gifts we give doesn't necessarily have to be monetary, we could give an helping hand, a hug or smile, we could give good counsel or of our time as a mentor or tutor...more importantly, we could share the gift of salvation which Jesus Christ our Saviour brought to us by giving Himself on the Cross of Calvary.
