How far do you think your superior would be willing to go if asked to recommend you for something? Thinking about the relationship between Elijah and Elisha, what do you think must have gone through Elijah's mind when Elisha asked for a double portion of his anointing? You see, there is a lot to learn either as the teacher or the student, from the account of these two great men. If you were Elijah, are you sure you wouldn't have been angry if your trainee says that to you? Then as the student/trainee, do you set goals of what you hope to learn from your direct superiors or are too carried away by the I'll treatments you get?
The easiest assumption to make from this story is to think that Elisha asked for the double portions because Elijah must have been such a wonderful boss, but I don't think that would be accurate, we all have our imperfections. However, looking beyond an individual's imperfection to see the treasure they possess, and seeking that treasure is the real deal, and that's how you develop the competence required to take over from the person.
Colossians 3:22 -  You slaves must always obey your earthly masters, not only trying to please them when they are watching you but all the time; obey them willingly because of your love for the Lord and because you want to please him[TLB]. Anybody can learn from a mentor online, but don't forget to pick a thing or two from those people God has placed above you, the same ones that step on your toes daily, as that has a bigger influence on your character.
