Two guys started an argument about sin, one said all sins carry the same weight while the other said that's not true, all sins can't carry the same weight, some sins must be weightier than others. I stood watching them, not willing to make any comment, then one one of them turned and asked me, "bros, what do you think, is it true that a sin like homosexuality would carry the same weight as lying?". I quietly gave my response, and they continued with their argument. So this morning, I'd like us to consider their discussion.
Let's assume all sins are graded differently in heaven, and a grading system similar to the one used here on earth is adopted. Since all sins displease God, let "F" represent the grade, while numbers are attached to the letter to indicate the weight. So we have F1, F2, F3, F4... Now, think about it, even if one person is F1 and another is F1000, what different does that make since it all falls under F, under the same class of people doing what displeases God? It's like scoring 39/100 and 1/100, both scores still gives you F!
Secondly, when they brought the woman caught in adultery to Jesus, He told the crowd, "let the one without sin be the first to cast a stone". If it is true that sins are graded, don't you think Jesus should have said "let the one without this kind of sin be the first to cast a stone?"
My point is, graded or not graded, you shouldn't be found on the side of sin, it's not worth it. Hebrews 8:12 says - I will forgive them for the wicked things they did, and I will not remember their sins anymore[NCV]. Therefore, why not move to the side why there is no record of sin, where your slate is not only whipped clean, but you are also given the grace to live righteously. Jesus is that way, and He is waiting for you. God Bless You!
