Hmm... Come to think of it, since Jesus knew He's purpose on earth was come save people, why didn't He chose only pastor or those similar to pastors as disciples? I look at the list of Jesus' disciples and I see professionals from different fields, all finding their purpose in Jesus.
Therefore, the first thought I'd like to share with you today, is the fact that your profession and your faith(Christianity) doesn't have to be mutually exclusive, the two can work together in perfect alignment. In fact, God needs the work of your hands so that He would have something to use in setting you apart, just like He did for Joseph, Jacob and Daniel.
The second part is that i think some persons are holding back on their commitment to God because they feel it might mean giving up on their beloved profession to become a pastor. The truth is that we are not all called to be pastors, but we are all called to be exemplary Christians.
Philippians 2:13 - It is God who produces in you the desires and actions that please him[GW]. You see, God is aware of your desires and the things you love. Actually, according to this verse, He put it there, and if He did, then it means He intends to use it. If you love something so much, take it that God wants to show Himself so much in that area through you and that, is your ministry. So, you and I need to move from healing the sick in churches to healing business in offices, healing the minds on the street from corruption and all forms of abuse, healing stomachs of hunger through entrepreneurship and so on. I think Jesus chose a variety of professionals, so that you and I can see that our professions are equally involved in showing forth his glory here on earth.
God Bless You!
