“Anything that is important for you to worry about is big enough for you to pray about”. When my teacher said these words on Sunday, he said it with so much simplicity but it strongly resonated within me. He also went further in explaining how these things work.
Worrying is like making a TV series, or what we refer to as “season” movies[a very long season movie]. The truth is that the underlying story behind many of these movies could have been made into a single movie that one can watch in a few hours, but when it is made as a TV series, stories are built around different elements of the movies, and some things that could have been left to your imagination in a short film are also considered. Likewise, when you worry, you pick a single thought about something that gives you concern and you start adding several elements to it **does that mean good ‘worriers’ would be good script writers? I don’t know!**. Sometimes, these thoughts build up so fast you will be amazed at all the possibilities you have considered about what could happen[that has not happened]. Some even assume what they are doing is thinking of a way out, but when your thoughts are filled with the worst case scenario, it has become worrying and the worst part is that our mind are built to produce our most dominant thoughts as experiences.
So what do we do then? Paul has an answer in Philippians 4:8 - And now, brothers, as I close this letter, let me say this one more thing: FIX your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about[TLB]. See! One place you can be anything you wanna be without committing any offence is in your mind, so don’t miss out on being the best in there. God gave you your imagination for good reasons, don’t waste it on worrying, PRAY instead. God Bless You!
